Curriculum Vitae vs Resume
Apparently, CV and Resume plays a vital role in describing about one self’s career information concisely in the maze of applying for job opportunities. However, we often can’t decipher what’s a CV and Resume although we frequently use CV and Resume interchangeably. Let’s superficially perceive the variances!
Basically, a CV is a document that consists of a detailed wrap-up of academic and professional information along with publications, journals, conferences, research, presentations, awards, and accolades widely used in academic, research and scientific disciplines. In contrast, a Resume emphasizes on relevant expertise, employment history, roles and responsibilities and major accomplishments customized as per specific job description, with relevant key words and mostly used for specific job applications.
There are not many notable differences but still they have salient yet slightest variations such as length and detail, objective, audience, content and personalization. While both use reverse-chronological order, a Resume can be prepared in functional format as well. A CV has no constraint on number of pages, it can be longer and convey information in-depth and in detail. On the other hand, a Resume generally is much shorter, briefer and usually limited to one or two pages.
Nonetheless, a CV offers more flexibility in personalization and it’s much easier and quicker to make changes for each job application whereas a Resume requires more diligence as it is customized for specific job application.
A CV appreciably favours Academic, Research, Medical, Healthcare professionals and International Job Seekers as it contains content and sections pertinent to these particular realms and it also aids in exhibiting contributions to their respective areas. Alternatively, a Resume caters well to Business, Creative, Technical and IT professionals and also to Job Seekers in Non-Academic domain for its significant and targeted approach which amplifies possibilities of attracting hiring managers and recruiters.
Ultimately, it’s all about effective self-presentation so, choose what suits you the best and pave the way to turn your dreams into reality.
